Other Relevant Experience
Boys and Girls Club of Greater Holland
One of my field placements for Hope actually took place at the Boys and Girls Club instead of in a classroom. It was this experience that really showed me how invested I want to be in my students. Most of the work I did here was planning and organizing games and activities for anywhere between ten and 30 at-risk students in 5th-7th grade. However, my most important work was simply establishing relationship with these students and being an example of a productive adult that yes, can struggle, but ultimately strives for achieving my best at any given time http://www.bgch.org/ |
Lakeshore Vineyard Church Youth Group
I have been involved with the youth group at my church since Fall 2010. My experience here with students has, once again, been very rapport-based. Though sometimes the nights are spent as a large group, most times we break up into small groups of about five to ten students led by one or two leaders. Our task as leaders is to adapt the material that the youth pastor wants to teach that week so that it is engaging and memorable to the varying age groups. Every year our small group assignment changes. The different groups I have been paired with in chronological order are as follows: 11th-12th grade girls, 10th grade girls, 8th-9th grade girls. http://www.lakeshorevineyard.org/ |
